Canteen has not launched and this document has not been reviewed by counsel. It describes what the product is being built to do, accurately and in plain language, but it is not yet a binding agreement and should not be relied on as one.

Who you are dealing with

Canteen is a product of Sandboxx. Canteen is not a bank. Banking services and the deposit accounts themselves are provided by our bank partner, a chartered financial institution. Your deposits are held by them, and their own account agreement governs the account itself. This document covers the app and the service around it.

Who can open an account

You need to be 18 or older, a US person for tax purposes, and able to pass the identity verification the law requires. Canteen is built for service members, veterans and military families, and some features depend on being paid by DFAS.

We may decline to open an account, and we are not always able to tell you why. That is a constraint of financial regulation rather than an evasion.

Being honest with us

What you tell us during sign-up has to be true and yours. Opening an account with someone else’s identity is fraud, and it is the one thing here with consequences beyond losing access to the app.

Daily Pay

Daily Pay lets you draw pay you have already earned before payday, with no fee and no interest. It is not a loan and it is not credit. What you draw is settled against your next deposit. If your pay does not arrive as expected we will work it out with you rather than charge you for it.

What we ask of you

Keep your device and your passkey to yourself.
Tell us quickly if you think someone else has got into your account.
Do not use Canteen for anything unlawful.
Do not attack, scrape or reverse engineer the service.

Protections we advertise

Where we say a legal protection applies, we mean the protection as the law actually defines it. The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act interest cap covers active duty, and Guard and Reserve members on federal active orders. It does not cover veterans, retirees, or someone who has not shipped yet, and we will not imply otherwise to make a feature sound broader than it is.

Closing the account

You can close your account whenever you like. We can close it too, and other than in cases of fraud or legal obligation we will give you notice and time to move your money. Closing does not erase records we are required to keep.

When things go wrong

We will fix our mistakes. The service is provided as it is, and we do not promise it will never be unavailable. Nothing here limits any right you have that cannot be limited by agreement, including your rights over unauthorised transactions on your account.

Changes

If these terms change materially, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
